Realizations
In 2017, I began working exclusively online as an asynchronous adjunct instructor for a university and realized I could transition to a fully remote career. At the time, I was a full-time geospatial analyst at a regional government agency. When my family needed to relocate, I took a position elsewhere but sought a better work-life balance without the commute. In September 2019, before the pandemic, I landed my first fully remote job. It was a game-changer, bringing flexibility and stability to our lives.
Scott came to the same realization when the pandemic hit, and we were all working from home. It was an adventure—we found ourselves moving again while simultaneously remodeling a house. Shortly after returning to the office, he secured a position with a fully remote company and has been working as a Solutions Engineer ever since. The past few years have been incredible.
Home Remodel & Our Home Office
Our traditional dining room evolved into a multifunctional space, serving as our shared office, library, and craft center. It became the hub of our daily activities, where work, creativity, and learning seamlessly blend. During the day, it functions as a productive workspace, with dual desks and monitors set up for remote work. Shelves filled with books line the walls, creating an inviting library for research, reading, and inspiration. What was once just a dining area is now a dynamic and essential part of our home.

The Samsung 24-Inch Curved Monitor gives you an immersive view with its subtle 1800R curve, making work and gaming easier on the eyes. The Full HD 1080P resolution keeps everything sharp, while the 60Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync help prevent screen tearing. Its slim design saves desk space, and it even comes with a mouse pad for extra convenience. Whether for work or play, this monitor is a solid, budget-friendly choice.
Link to Trackball Mouse:
The Logitech MX Ergo Wireless Trackball Mouse is built for comfort and precision. Its ergonomic design reduces wrist strain, and the adjustable tilt lets you find the perfect angle. The trackball setup means less hand movement, making it great for long work sessions. With Bluetooth and USB connectivity, it works seamlessly across Windows and Mac, even letting you move content between two computers. Plus, it’s rechargeable, so no more scrambling for batteries. A solid choice for productivity and ease of use!
Office Atmosphere
A well-designed office atmosphere plays a crucial role in productivity and focus. A clean, organized space reduces distractions and promotes efficiency, while personal touches like plants, artwork, or soft textures create a more inviting environment.
Cozy lighting is just as important. Harsh overhead lights can cause eye strain and fatigue, whereas warm, adjustable lighting helps maintain focus and comfort. Natural light is ideal, but LED lamps with dimmable settings can mimic daylight and reduce glare. The right balance of ambiance and functionality makes a home office a space where you can work effectively while feeling comfortable and motivated.
We love our fairy lights with the warm glow (2700K) above our monitors. We don't have to fight with glare either!
